This course is designed to build on skills, vocabulary and Deaf Culture awareness that were taught in
Beginning ASL. This course will be a stepping stone into learning the profession of interpreting. Students
will be challenged to take text from our source language, English, and interpret it into a unique structured
visual language, ASL, using acquired vocabulary, fingerspelling, number incorporation, grammatical
sentence structure, Deaf culture, classifiers and non-manual signals.
Through classroom instruction, experiential and self-directed growth, the student should use vocabulary
from Beg ASL I, expand vocabulary and use expressive conversational skills from Beginning I. The
student will continue to expand his or her growth and skill in practicum in both expressive and receptive
At this intermediate level, students will benefit from participating in Deaf events around the city where the
instructor will be involved. This is in order to integrate students into Deaf culture. Outside of class,
